Methamphetamine is a powerful stimulant that is severely impacting numerous communities around the country. Meth is unique in that it is not only very highly addictive, but is extremely harmful to the user and is unusually likely to cause harm to those around the user.

Meth produces an intense euphoria and energy rush. The high is cheap and lasts 6-8 hours. The drug can be taken in succession, allowing the user to stay awake and high for days or weeks. The person's mind and body are completely devestated during this period of time. When the high ends, the user experiences intense withdrawal symptoms including depression, anxiety, and an intense craving for more of the drug.

Because the withdrawal symptoms are so uncomfortable, a user is likely to continue taking the drug for long periods of time until he or she runs out of the drug and experiences a crash. Because of the intense craving and intense depression the user feels after these binges, a high percentage of methamphetamine addicts turn to crime to support their habbit. The effect is so pronounced, that police in cities such as Spokane, Washington estimate that in their city over 90% of property crime and identity theft crimes are committed by meth addicts.
